Israel: Iran nearing nuclear self-sufficiency
Iran will be able to produce its own nuclear weapons without outside help within a year if it completes its uranium enrichment program, the head of Israeli military intelligence said Tuesday.

An Iranian security official said Tuesday that Iran would suspend uranium enrichment and allow spot checks of a nuclear program it insists is peaceful, but he did not say when the suspension would begin or how long it would last.

Israeli officials charge that Iran is covertly acquiring nuclear arms know-how, at least some of it from countries of the former Soviet Union.

The Israeli military intelligence chief, Maj. Gen. Aharon Zeevi-Farkash, told the Israeli parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Iran is definitely working toward nuclear arms capability and will soon no longer need to seek help abroad.

Iran must be watched. It cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons. I will leave it at that.

1. Hey the genie is out of the bottle & it's to late to put it back in.

You think these other nations are just going to sit around doing nothing while their neighbours and sworn enemies arm themselves to the teeth with the latest weapons and technology.

THINK AGAIN!

2. Iran
Given that Iran is part of Bush's insane "Axis of Evil", and having observed the "Bush Doctrine" of "preemptive aggression" in action, Iran would be crazy not to develop nuclear weapons, especially when Israel has over 200 unacknowledged nuclear warheads. Iran is really just following North Korea's example (if in fact they are working on weapons) and thereby demonstrating the Bush Doctrine to be a complete fraud -- when an "evil" nation really has WMD (like No. Korea), Bush doesn't attack; he negotiates.

When Bush can invade another country based on lies, nobody is safe, so everyone needs unconventional weapons to defend, yet another example of how the Bush Doctrine encourages the proliferation of WMD.

What a pitiful state of affairs.
