IDF soldier killed in operation in northern Strip; another suffers critical injuries during clash with Palestinian terrorists

"An IDF soldier was killed and another one suffered critical injuries Sunday, during IDF operations in Gaza's Jabalya area.

The soldiers were medevaced to the Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba. Both of their families have been notified.

On Sunday morning, the IDF reported that an officer and a soldier were seriously wounded and that some 20 soldiers were wounded by a mortar shell that detonated near a Golani force. The IDF estimates that some 50 Hamas terrorists have been killed since the inception of the ground offensive Saturday night.

According to reports coming from troops in the field, the fighting with Hamas cells, which are using a broad range of weapons including explosive devices, is at close range. Military sources have noted that though Hamas have avoided reporting official casualty counts, they estimate that dozens of terrorists have been wounded in addition to the dozens killed since Saturday night."

The soldier was killed and four others wounded on Tuesday morning when militants opened fire on them during a patrol operation in Gaza City. The soldiers returned fire and identified hitting their targets.

Four other soldiers were killed in two separate incidents on Monday while battling Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, The soldiers apparently died when errant IDF tank shells hit areas in which they were operating."
