More than 300 Palestinian youth have been arrested by Israeli police since the beginning of offensive in the Gaza Strip.
All of those arrested have Jerusalem or Israeli ID cards. The youth have been placed for the most part in administrative detention, or put away on minor changes for short periods of time.
The more than 240 of those detained have been given additional time in prison. Only 35 have been indicted and charged with disturbing the peace.According to Israeli sources 100 of those who were arrested were minors.
The Israeli daily newspaper Maariv reported that directives were given to Israeli police in the north to deal seriously with any riots or demonstrations that erupt in the area. They were given the okay to arrest large numbers of Palestinians and were ordered to avoid confrontations with Israeli security.
