Denmark Protests After Israel Bombs Three Gaza Clinics
Source: IC Publications

Denmark's foreign ministry Tuesday summoned Israel's ambassador to Copenhagen for an explanation of the bombing of three mobile clinics run by a Danish charity in Gaza.

The Folkekirkens Noedhjaelp (DanChurchAid) clinics were bombarded on Monday night despite being clearly marked, said the organisation's secretary general Henrik Stubkjaer in a statement.

Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller called in Israeli ambassador Arthur Avnon after a special meeeting of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee devoted to the conflict in Gaza.

"We shall summon the Israeli ambassador because it (the bombing of the clinics) should not take place," he told reporters, adding that he was "convinced" that the destruction of humanitarian equipment "was not intentional".

DanChurchAid said the clinics were caring for people who had been unable to get treatment in local hospitals which had been overwhelmed by the number of victims.

It described the attacks as a "breach of the Geneva Convention".

"We received the news that all three mobile clinics were bombed and rendered unusable during the night of January 5 at Gaza City although they were clearly marked with signs saying 'Mobile Clinic'," it said in a statement."

1. Ecuador accuses Israel of crimes against humanity
'World is horrified by Israeli military offensive against Palestinian people,' says country's legislative commission

"Lawmakers in Ecuador on Tuesday condemned Israel's military offensive in the Gaza Strip and called for a global probe of alleged "crimes against humanity."

The country's legislative commission "called for an international investigation to pursue those responsible for these crimes against humanity," it said on the 11th day of the Jewish state's assault on Hamas-run Gaza.

The commission, which replaces Congress until the next general election in April after a new Constitution is adopted, said it passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people.

"The world is horrified by the Israeli military offensive against the Palestinian people," it said.

"A large number of the victims are women and children, which raises the issue of state-sponsored terrorism and (constitutes) a crime against humanity," the resolution said."
