Driven to distraction by the tragedies of eternalwarfare and the burdens of economic strife,Israelis woke Wednesday to a peace initiative sooutlandish as to accomplish the impossible - defy
immediate condemnation.

Heralded by a literally star-spangled flourish in thepopular press, anorganization called OneVoiceIsrael announced that a redcarpet list of marquee actors- Brad Pitt, JenniferAniston, Jason Alexander,Danny De Vito and RheaPearlman - had signed on fora decidedly unorthodox mission: coming to theHoly Land in an effort to make peace. <snip>

Security permitting, the stars are to arrive inIsrael at the end of the year or the beginningof 2004, said OneVoice Israel Executive
Director David Leffler, a one-time aide toYitzhak Rabin, and more recently,Director-General of Israel's Ministry ofScience, Culture and Sport.

Leffler said the group's goal is to promote areferendum, in which "very large numbers" of both Israelis and Palestinians would take part (answering questions as to what is more important and what is less important in a peace plan).<snip>
