How can a truce be achieved in Gaza?
The UN Security Council has voted for a resolution asking for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, with the US alone abstaining. Is a ceasefire possible?

The United States abstained from the vote saying it wanted to see the outcome of mediation efforts by Egypt. However, the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, said the US supported the text of the resolution

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said: "An immediate and durable ceasefire is the first step. However, we also all know that more will be needed, and that a political way forward is required to deliver long term security and peace."
