Modern Israeli/Palestinian literature?
For my final English project due in May, I have to write a comparison of two post-colonial novels from a similar geographical area. I thought it would be really fascinating to read a book by a Palestinian author and a book by an Israeli author.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Keep in mind this is a grade 12 gifted English class, so they have to be fairly literary.

I know this is outside the forum guidelines, but I hope it doesn't get locked. I'm just not sure what books to look for, even.

1. What does "post-colonial" mean?
May I assume these can be entirely adult novels?

3. Don't know how easy it is to get hold of..
but the ideal book in a sense would be:

Elgar Keret and Samir El-Youssef: Gaza Blues: Different Stories. London: David Paul, 2004

This book contains a collection of short stories - "Crazy Glue"; "The Son of the Head of the Mossad"; and others by Israeli writer Keret; and a novella, "The Day the Beast Got Thirsty" by Palestinian writer El-Youssef. Both are very good and interesting writers IMO; and their decision to publish their stories in the same book gives a message which I wish were commoner.
