Hamas Vows to Fight Until Israel Leaves Gaza
Source: AP

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – A Hamas spokesman says the militant group will continue fighting until Israeli troops leave Gaza.

Spokesman Fawzi Barhoum made the statement Saturday as Israeli leaders met to approve an Egyptian cease-fire proposal that would halt Israel's 22-day-old offensive but leave troops in Gaza for a 10-day cooling-off period.

Barhoum did not explicitly say whether Hamas would hold its fire if Israeli forces do leave Gaza.

His comments were in a speech aired on Hamas television in Gaza.

1. How on earth can there be a cooling off period if Israeli troops
are still in Gaza?

2. This latest 'unilateral cease-fire' is designed to fail, unfortunately.

5. I am sure that is the hope of Israel.
They can act like they are taking the high road, but it is a flawed tactic. Just like this entire invasion, it will not bring more security to Israelis or bring the region closer to peace.

9. Poor word choice...better not good
If Hamas launches rockets, then it gives credibility to Israel, and would some support to continued hostilities.
If Hamas does not launch rockets, it shows what Israel did worked.

Either way Israel wins

24. It's too late for Israel to look good. Whether they withdraw or not,
attempting to take credit for a ceasefire will look very bad especially as bodies are dug out of the rubble.

12. It does not matter
here is the game Hamas did not have full control over all the different factions in Gaza and could not fully control all of the rocket fire before this "operation" and in the chaos that is Gaza now certainly ha even less, Israel well knows this but will hold Hamas responsible for any rocket fire coming from Gaza heck if a rocket gets fired Abbas himself could claim responsibility but Hamas would still be blamed as it was said earlier this truce is designed to fail and make the continued killing appear justified, also it gives IDF a break to resupply.

18. That;s why there are laws and a government
Hamas is the government.

They shoot anyone who doesn't agree with them, so they could OF COURSE control the rocket fire.

If they wanted to, that is.

Which they clearly don't.

January 20. Israel has now clinched American military involvement from Bush in the last 96 hours of his presidency just what that will entail has not been publicly announced as yet, but apparently Israel did not trust it would get that from Obama.

edited to add
as to the "agreement" signed by Condi and Tzipi I am amazed that there is not outrage over this even here.

10. Hamas Television in Gaza? Please show me where it says that.
From the article:
'But Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said a unilateral cease-fire was not enough.
"The occupier must halt his fire immediately and withdraw from our land and lift his blockade and open all crossings and we will not accept any one Zionist soldier on our land, regardless of the price that it costs," Barhoum said.'

Nowhere does it mention Hamas TV.

Hamas does not have a TV station. None of their 'spokespeople' are in Gaza. How dangerous are they, really?

easy for him to claim victory, or urge the people to keep fighting (and dying), there from the safety of his bunker.

Syria's Assad ready to cooperate with Obama:
Sat Jan 17,
BERLIN (Reuters) - Syria is ready to cooperate with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama and wants him to get seriously involved in the Middle East peace process, President Bashar al-Assad told a German magazine.

In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Assad also expressed some caution about future relations and said he preferred to talk about hopes rather than expectations.

will Assad turn on his handler allies in Tehran ?

in Gaza as Israel went in.
