KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian children can show their solidarity with their less fortunate counterparts in Gaza.
They can write a letter, send a card, a postcard or drawings expressing their support, encouragement, thoughts and prayers for them.
Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir initiated and launched the "To My Friend in Gaza" project in partnership with the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) and Wondermilk, which designed the logo, here on Wednesday.
She said, as of Jan 19, of the 1,314 Palestinians who died, 412 were children accounting for 32 per cent and 100 were women (eight per cent).
Of the more than 5,300 wounded, 1,855 (35 per cent) were children and 795 (15 per cent) were women.
She said over 800,000 children had been exposed to extraordinary levels of violence and were experiencing unimaginable trauma.
She said no child should be made to suffer like that and called on parents to encourage their children to show their concern for Gazan children.
Unicef Representative to Malaysia Youssouf Oomar said the initiative was one way to reconstruct the children's hearts and minds.
The cards and letters should be sent to "To My Friend in Gaza" c/o 48, Jalan Terasek Dua, 591000 Kuala Lumpur by Feb 20.
They will be translated into Arabic and Unicef will deliver them to the children in Gaza through its office there.
