Israeli destruction of buildings in Gaza is illegal, Annan says
http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=8690&Cr=middle&Cr1=east

27 October – The United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and his senior envoy for the Middle East today strongly deplored Israel’s continuing demolition of Palestinian-owned buildings as illegal, especially the destruction of three 13-story buildings in the Gaza Strip on the weekend.

"The Secretary-General continues to follow with great concern the ongoing cycle of violence between Israelis and Palestinians," a spokesperson for Mr. Annan told a news briefing in New York. "He deplores all acts that fuel and intensify the conflict. The Secretary-General reminds the Israeli authorities that house demolitions amount to collective punishment, which is a clear violation of international humanitarian law."

During the past month, 2,000 people became homeless as Israel destroyed some 200 buildings in the Gaza Strip, spokesperson Marie Okabe said. In that connection, the Secretary-General deplored the destruction by the Israeli military of three 13-story buildings in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.

3. yeah!
How dare Annan condemn Israel's terrorism.

Everyone knows that any world leader who wants to gain the acceptance of the BFEE must condemn only Arab terrorism. When will Kofi learn?

(On edit: grammar)

Two comments.

(1) Mr. Sagle made his remarks concerning Kofi Annan, the person, but included zero reference to his skin color or his ethnicity. In fact his comment consisted of the following:

The UN ain't nuthin' but shit and neither is Kofi.

While there is much to disagree with the content of the comment, your charge of racism is groundless and thus a slur. Unless you have specific material to prove otherwise, then I suggest you drop this matter. If you do have grounds, then you are to use the alert system. Accusing someone of such behaviour without specific proof not only damages your credibility it is considered uncivil behaviour.

(2) Your posts were deleted for two reasons, they were either ad hominem attacks against a DU member or against the moderators. Both are against DU rules.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact myself or UGRR via PM.

5. Funny ain't it
It's way too hard to evacuate Efrat (6,000pop), but in a month Israel can make 33% of that number not just evacuated, but homeless.

In addition, they have to be somehow absorbed by a non-state with a shattered economy.

shooting foreign soldiers on land they are illegally occupying is now "terrorism" too according to Israel? You hypocrites could at least let me borrow the Rule Book O' Terror at some time so I know these silly things too.

18. I take the UN seriously
And so does Bush, apparently, since he came back to beg for legitimacy and money to bail him out of his criminal enterpirse in Iraq.

The UN gave the vote to partition Palestine in the first place,

If it is illegitimate, then Israel is illegitimate.

It is NOT illegitimate, however, and neither is Israel as a state..Israel is legal--althought the policies of occupation and demolitions have been rightly condemned.

28. Don't ignore anything
He failed to mention the REASON why Israel has to take action. If you want to criticize both sides fairly, then do so. Don't throw Israel a bone once in a blue moon and the rest of the time ignore the murdering terrorist scumbags that blow themselves up in a quest to murder the largest number of women and children.

30. Removed post??
For what? I only reiterated the fact that Muddle makes excuses for Israel by ignoring Annan's condemnations of both sides. What's wrong with that? There was no personal attack or breaking of rules, whatsoever.

I would really appreciate some kind of explanation, if it's not too much trouble.
