Pro-Palestinian protesters throw shoes at Israeli army spokesman
<snip>

"Dutch police on Monday confirmed they had detained two men and a woman suspected of having thrown shoes at Israeli army spokesman Ron Edelheit.

Edelheit was hit on his legs by the shoes at a lecture in Amsterdam late Sunday evening entitled 'After the Gaza war, what next?' which was picketed by pro-Palestinian demonstrators."

<snip>

"Edelheit's lecture took place in the Amsterdam Apollo Hotel on Sunday. Outside, around 50 supporters of the Dutch Palestine Committee assembled in a rally against the Israeli army spokesman's visit.

Co-organizer CIDI said it had been forced to change the lecture's location just hours before it was due to start.

The hotel where the lecture would be held cancelled after receiving threats and hate mail. CIDI also said it had received numerous threats and hate mail.

The Dutch Palestine Committee spokesman said it had protested against Edelheit's visit but said it knew nothing about the threats. "

1. 'Today shoes, tomorrow guns,' says IDF officer heckled in Holland
In another copycat shoe-throwing incident against Israelis in Europe, Amsterdam police on Sunday arrested three people who hurled footwear at an Israeli army officer while he was lecturing at a hotel in the Dutch capital.

"Today it's shoes, tomorrow knives and then guns," the officer, Captain (res.) Ron Adelheit, told Haaretz.

"I was on a private visit to see my mother," he said. "As an IDF Spokesperson reservist I volunteered to speak before the Dutch Jewish community about Operation Cast Lead." Dutch-born Adelheit, who immigrated to Israel many years ago, said he had filed a criminal complaint against the suspected assailants, two men and a woman, whom police arrested at the hotel.

"Fifty demonstrators waited for me outside the Apollo Hotel, chanting nasty slogans," he said. "Three entered the room, shouting and throwing four shoes at my direction." He said the hecklers were "typically Dutch-looking."

2. "Gas the Jews"
Those were the "nasty slogans" that were hurled from the demo outside. But I'm sure they were only anti-Zionist. They're not anti-Semitic, oh no. :sarcasm:

6. A passerby said it to my daughter, after I said, "sir, this girl is an Arab!"

Looked her square in the eye and said, "the only good Arab is a dead Arab."

This was standing outside the Israeli Consulate on 19th & JFK Blvd back in late December.

The guy was walking by (right in front of us--not across the street -- we were a small group that night) shouting that. I thought... let me make him understand he is talking about HUMAN BEINGS.

I was standing next to my 14 year old daughter, with her "honk for peace" sign, and when he was in front of us, I pointed out that this beautiful kid was an Arab.

It was pretty shocking.

That's an example of somthing very personal, but I certainly heard it shouted during several marches, as well as at the counter-demo at the Israel's 60th bday party last spring in Philly. We were a small group on the side of the parade route and parade marchers shouted it at us.

Were you under the impression thatpro-Israel people aren't capable of ugly racism?

7. Very disturbing
I was just curious as to the context.

Awful that you and your daughter had to deal with that firsthand.

8. It was pretty ugly.
I nearly ripped the guy a new one. When I turned back to my kid, she had tears trickling down her cheek. It broke my heart!!

But... that's the world we live in. She survived and we participated in many marches during that time.

9. Either its recorded it or didnt happen
there are so many bullshit claims circulating about what is being shouted at rallies, and mobile phone cameras are ubiquitous enough. Its a good rule, if applied both ways.
