"The head of Israel's internal security service has said that Israel has no need to continue building its separation wall between Israel and the West Bank.
Yuval Diskin, who heads Shin Bet, told a subcommittee of the Israeli parliament on Tuesday that Israel already has enough security measures to prevent any attack from the West Bank.
The Palestine News Network reported Diskin as saying that Israel has sufficient "security capabilities and military intelligence enabling
to prevent any attacks emanating from the Palestinian territories".
Israel began building its controversial separation wall seven years ago and has maintained that it was being constructed for security reasons.
Palestinians say the route of the wall has been set in such a way that it grabs land that could have been included in a future Palestinian state.
A report by Stop the Wall, a Palestinian coalition of NGOs opposed to the wall, said that in 2007 alone, Israel demolished more than 160 houses and appropriated more than 3,000 dunnums (3sq km) of land in the Palestinian West Bank in its construction of the wall."
