Netanyahu: Jerusalem will never be divided again

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Thursday that all of Jerusalem would always remain under Israeli sovereignty, in comments likely to spark consternation among Palestinians who hope to make the city the capital of a future state.

"United Jerusalem is Israel's capital. Jerusalem was always ours and will always be ours. It will never again be partitioned and divided," Netanyahu said at a state ceremony to mark Jerusalem Day.

Netanyahu said he had made the same declaration during his recent visit to Washington, where he met with United States President Barack Obama over the peace process and Iran's nuclear program.

Jerusalem Day celebrates the conquest of the city during the 1967 Six Day War, before which Jordan controlled east Jerusalem, while Israel had the western section. Shortly after the war, Israel annexed east Jerusalem.

"Only under Israeli sovereignty will united Jerusalem ensure the freedom of religion and freedom of access for the three religions to the holy places," Netanyahu added.

1. One and only one solution

Make Jerusalem an international city under control of the UN. Anything else and this mess is still going on in 3009.

4. Face the Facts.

Both sides are willing to slaughter each other over the city. I believe that the Israelis have a more valid claim but in the interests of peace, it should be an international city.

The city government and police force would have to be a EVEN mix of Muslims/Jews/Christians. The UN would provide general cover for a decade or so until the experiment has been proven.

Pilgrims from all faiths would be allowed to pass through unmolested. The working/De Facto capitals of Israel and Palestine would be elsewhere. (Tel Aviv and Ramellah) Both governments would maintain an ceremonial presence/embassy within the city. With NO power within the city walls.

There would be a thousand other issues. Could this work? Maybe. Why wouldn't it? The Spark. That one instance of violence from either side that would ignite a general conflict. Both sides would be pushed into this conflict by the fundies and hardcores. The extreme Rabbis and Mullahs will preach non-stop that Jerusalem belongs to them and only them.

This would happen because the UN is fucking useless and wouldn't protect the city.

So until both sides can work out their issues, the city is safer with Israel.
