Hezbollah to continue arming to fight Israel
BEIRUT — Hezbollah's leader said Monday that the Lebanese militant group will improve its weapons capabilities to face off any Israeli threat and that armed struggle was the only way to regain Arab lands captured by the Jewish state.

Hassan Nasrallah's remarks signaled the group has no intention of meeting a United Nations resolution requiring it to give up its weapons. That position that has generated division among the country's fractious political groups as well as concern in Israel, which says it is preparing to deploy a defense system to shoot down rockets from Lebanon.

Nasrallah gave no details on the weapons plans, but Hezbollah has said it has tens of thousands of rockets.

Israel's military says that since its 2006 war with the group, Hezbollah has tripled its prewar arsenal to more than 40,000 rockets, some of which can strike virtually anywhere in Israel — a dramatic improvement over the short-range missiles fired in 2006.

1. Hezbollah blames U.S. for all terrorism
Beirut, Lebanon (CNN) -- Hezbollah's chief on Monday announced the group's new "manifesto," which calls on all countries to "liberate Jerusalem" and declares the United States a threat to the world.

"American terrorism is the source of every terrorism in the world," Hassan Nasrallah said in a televised speech from an undisclosed location.

It was his first address since a unity government formed in Lebanon this month, ending a crisis that had left the country with no government since June's parliamentary elections.

"We invite and call on all Arabs and Muslims and all countries keen on peace and stability in the world to intensify efforts and resources to liberate Jerusalem from Zionist occupation and to maintain its true identity and its Islamic and Christian sanctities," Nasrallah said.

4. As well they should?
So, violating UN security council resolutions is ok for Hezbollah?

5. Israel's also violated security council resolutions...
I just thought that was worth pointing out as you don't appear to be aware of it...

6. yeah, it's apparently "progressive" to cheer on a terror group that's armed by Iran
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 06:33 AM by shira
if you ignore Hezbollah's own illegal military occupation of Lebanese soil, forget that these Islamist fundies couldn't care less about the 400,000 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, and believe they're actually a resistance group whose top priority isn't to target Jewish civilians while hiding like cowards behind their own, then of course they get the kosher hechsher as "freedom" fighters who should rightfully arm themselves for "self defense" reasons.

:eyes:

you must a 'true believer' in the narrative - fantasy trumps reality - facts and reasoned logic are blasphemous to the 'religiously' devout.

7. Zionists touting UN security council resolutions? Interesting!

Given Israel's history of aggression, along with the fact that Israel is armed to the teeth, Oberliner, do you really NOT understand why its neighbors feel threatened? Seriously?

I get that as a supporter of Israel you don't like it, but are you incapable of understanding it?

I'm curious... Are you one of the Americans who believes that only a select few countries (with the US stamp of approval) have the right to acquire arms? (not putting Hezbollah in this category, btw). I don't recall the US ever seeking permission to acquire arms.

I always find it curious when Americans expect that other nations will conduct themselves as pseudo-nations, without the right to exercise their sovereignty as they see fit.

8. Israel's neighbors like Hamas and Hezbollah, backed by Iran, feel threatened?
Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 07:30 AM by shira
all they have to do is not attack Israelis and Israel will not have a reason to touch Lebanon.

what's so difficult about this?

why pretend that intolerant, jingoistic Islamist fundy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah - who couldn't give a crap even about the hundreds of thousands of suffering Palestinian refugees among them - feel 'threatened' by Israel?

You drinking the Hamas / Hezbollah / Iranian "resistance" koolaid?

17. Yes, quite a lot there to take in
I particularly liked the bits about blasphemous fantasy, reality trumped (starved and raped is more like it), suddenly against military occupations?, and... Wow, just...wow.

9. as a country
Israel has every right to be armed. Lebanon has that right as well. To arm its national forces.

Hizbullah is not an army of a country, they are an illegally armed militia/terror group. One who does not recognize Israel's right to exist, does not even recognize that jews along with muslims and christians have a religious tie to Jerusalem.
They are scum, and I wish the UN would do by force what they need to do to enforce the resolution to disarm Hizbullah, instead of standing idly by watching them rearm.

10. Lebanon absolutely has the right to arm itself
Hezbollah, however, is an extra-governmental militia that is required by international law to be disbanded and/or absorbed into Lebanon's armed forces.

Lebanon acquiring arms?

13. Not if those arms end up in the hands of Hezbollah
Personally, I think it would great if every country around the world would give up their weapons and live together in peace and harmony.

give them up.

Too bad, because next time Hezbollah strikes at Israel it will be Lebanon's responsibility.

Of course with Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran occupying Lebanon and holding a gun to the Govt's head, it's not as if the Lebanese Govt has another option.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

In a world of constantly shifting forces, this consistancy is much appreciated. And entertaining.
