Goldstone wins Swedish prize
Judge who led controversial Gaza war inquiry honored with human rights award

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3814959,00.htm

<snip>

"South African judge Richard Goldstone, author of a UN report alleging war crimes during the conflict in Gaza last year, won the Stockholm Human Rights Award Thursday.

The prize is awarded by the International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC), the Swedish Bar Association and the International Bar Association for "an outstanding contribution to promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms."

The decision cited Goldstone's "extraordinary career" in promoting human rights, in his native South Africa and elsewhere.

Judge Goldstone was commissioned by the United Nations this year to look into Operation Cast Lead. His report, which accused Israel and armed Palestinian groups of "crimes war" prompted extensive criticism in Israel.

The United Nations General Assembly endorsed the report, and has handed it over to the UN Security Council."

...including OCL, (like using children in combat, as shields, using ambulances and hospitals for cover, using mosques and schools for military purposes, boobytrapping civilian homes) Goldstone is worthy of a human-rights award.

:puke:

This in addition to demonizing Israel, taking Hamas testimony for granted and ignoring any evidence found on google that would exculpate Israel.

4. no, I wrote that Goldstone took all of Hamas' testimony against Israel for granted
Edited on Fri Dec-04-09 07:16 AM by shira
He never suggested doubt about anything coming from the 'Gaza Authorities', ie, Hamas.

As for Palestinian testimony, they were intimidated under the watchful eye of Hamas, and that's written within the report. Goldstone never even cross-questioned the Palestinians regarding Hamas illegal war crimes mentioned in my last post above. No Palestinian testimony, whether Hamas or civilians who were intimidated by Hamas, was rejected by Goldstone. Meanwhile, clear evidence exculpating Israel was ignored by the commission. Go figure.

Can you admit to anything being fishy about the report? Just one thing?

not that this will make a bit of difference to the haters, as this will be seen as yet another Jew sticking with his own no matter what, rather than a principled progressive making a brave stand....very much like what has happened recently in these cases of leftist progressives criticizing Goldstone or HRW (of which Goldstone was recently on the board)......
