'WikiLeaks shows U.S. dismissed Israel's warnings about Iran bomb'
Tension has been building around the world ahead of the massive leak of a reported 250,000 diplomatic cables by the whistle-blowing website, which have media sources around the world speculating as to the content and potential gravity of the information.

According to Der Spiegel, which is running excerpts of the WikiLeaks expose in its Monday edition, a State Department official states in a classified cable that Netanyahu informed the United States of Iran's nuclear advancement in November 2009, but that the prime minister's estimate was likely unfounded and intended to pressure Washington into action against the Islamic Republic

1. Didn't Israel warn us about Iraq's yellowcake?
Edited on Sun Nov-28-10 06:13 PM by howaboutme
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

We should take what Israel intelligence says for exactly what it is -- propaganda to help its own Israeli interests. They fooled us on Iraq. We need to understand clearly that what is good for Israel, is not necessarily good for the USA.

Just how much of these so-called leaks will actually be published by the media, especially something that is truly embarrassing?

3. No, Israel had nothing to do with that - it was Italy
Israel did not "fool us" on Iraq.

4. You might want to google that.

Hans Blix said the Italian letters were forgeries. I believe him before I believe Israel. Blix had no motive to lie. Israel had a huge motive to involve we the USA schmucks in infinite wars at our cost for their benefit.

5. The Google hits all confirm the information
Everyone agrees that the letters were forgeries.

None of the Google hits provide any information about Israel being involved.

They all confirm that Italy brought the forged letters to the US.

6. By saying it, doesn't make it so
You've read the wrong sites. Which one says Israel didn't suck us into an Iraq War just like they are attempting to do in Iran?

http://www.haaretz.com/news/u-s-general-israel-palestinian-conflict-foments-anti-u-s-sentiment-1.264910

Too bad that we Americans must read the Israeli media to get information that General Petraeus warned that Israeli actions against peace were a an ominous threat to the American people just like their false intel in 2001 and 2002 led to the Iraq War.

7. I thought we were talking about the yellow cake incident?
Your link has nothing to do with that.

And Israel had nothing to do with that.

"Who Forged the Letters that Sucked Us into War?
Israel, Yellowcake and the Media - JERRY KROTH"

You probably won't find it on the mainstream US media. That's because it is credible and while the MSM is incredible.

Then again - you won't find a current article about Congressman Eric Cantor secretly positioning to move the billions in Israeli foreign aid to the Dept of Defense budget to ensure its permanence in the Israeli entitlements paid for by Americans losing their social security and education. It may not be done in "top secret" but it is being done without any USA media coverage. A Congress lady from NY is opposing it. Still no coverage.

The US media is our enemy because they intentionally keep us in the dark on issues that are very important to the USA.

10. Israel warned the US not to go after Iraq
http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=39051

WASHINGTON, Aug 28, 2007 (IPS) - Israeli officials warned the George W. Bush administration that an invasion of Iraq would be destabilising to the region and urged the United States to instead target Iran as the primary enemy, according to former administration official Lawrence Wilkerson.

Wilkerson, then a member of the State Department's Policy Planning Staff and later chief of staff for Secretary of State Colin Powell, recalled in an interview with IPS that the Israelis reacted immediately to indications that the Bush administration was thinking of war against Iraq. After the Israeli government picked up the first signs of that intention, Wilkerson says, "The Israelis were telling us Iraq is not the enemy - Iran is the enemy."

Wilkerson describes the Israeli message to the Bush administration in early 2002 as being, "If you are going to destabilise the balance of power, do it against the main enemy."

The warning against an invasion of Iraq was "pervasive" in Israeli communications with the administration, Wilkerson recalls. It was conveyed to the administration by a wide range of Israeli sources, including political figures, intelligence and private citizens.

In the Haaretz link that you provided there is not one mention that Israel persuaded the US to invade Iraq. Besides which, Gen. Petraeus's himself said http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=173116">his remarks were taken out of context

11. That is true.
They correctly understood that invading Iraq would strengthen the government in Iran. And for the government of Israel it's always been about Iran, and with good reason.

But the cable is most likely correct about the danger of Iran's nukes being hyped. The danger Iran presents is geo-political, not directly military, and Israel needs to find a way to live with it because it is not going away. The best chance is to encourage and support political reform in Iran, IMHO. There is no useful military solution.

13. Why is Wilkerson 4 years late CYAing what Zelikow already contradicted 4 years earlier?
War Launched to Protect Israel - Bush Adviser
By Emad Mekay

WASHINGTON, Mar 29 (IPS) - IPS uncovered the remarks by Philip Zelikow, who is now the executive director of the body set up to investigate the terrorist attacks on the United States in September 2001 - the 9/11 commission - in which he suggests a prime motive for the invasion just over one year ago was to eliminate a threat to Israel, a staunch U.S. ally in the Middle East.

Zelikow's casting of the attack on Iraq as one launched to protect Israel appears at odds with the public position of President George W. Bush and his administration, which has never overtly drawn the link between its war on the regime of former president Hussein and its concern for Israel's security.

The administration has instead insisted it launched the war to liberate the Iraqi people, destroy Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and to protect the United States.

Zelikow made his statements about "the unstated threat" during his tenure on a highly knowledgeable and well-connected body known as the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB), which reports directly to the president. (Much more continued at IPS link).

RE: General Petraeous: Most would say there is no question where Petraeus's loyalty lies. Unfortunately for Americans typically kept in the dark by the US media, the debate about loyalty is kept under wraps. Someday we should have such a public debate and without any holds barred.

14. Interesting logic
Just like Bush bet that Iraq had some hand in 9/11.
