Jerusalem Arabs honor bin Laden
Arab support for terror chief: Dozens of Arab residents held a rally in support of assassinated al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in east Jerusalem's Silwan neighborhood Monday evening.

Some of the participants at the site hurled stones at Israel Police forces deployed in the area. Police officers responded with crowd dispersal means.

No reports of injuries or detainees were received following the rally.

Notably, bin Laden made various statements over the years in support of the Palestinians and against Israel.

2. So the Jewish Defence League musters 20 people at a rally in Toronto...
and you sardonically note that they are a "real powerhouse". On the other hand, an al-Qaida support rally attracts "dozens" of Arabs (which could be as little as 24) and this is supposedly indicative of the views of Jerusalem Arabs?

3. The elected leader of the Palestinians in Gaza has said the following
The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Monday condemned the killing by U.S. forces of Osama bin Laden and mourned him as an "Arab holy warrior."

We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood," Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, told reporters.

Though he noted doctrinal differences between bin Laden's al-Qaida and Hamas, Haniyeh said: "We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We ask God to offer him mercy with the true believers and the martyrs."

This is the man who is recognized as the de facto leader of the government in Gaza.

17. I disagree- the more knowledge the better
Clinging to inaccurate information, on the other hand, is almost always a bad thing.

20. yes it is however summing any group by one statement can lead to inaccurate knowledge
Edited on Thu May-05-11 12:32 AM by azurnoir
Hamas or any other group should not be be summed up in one sentence or statement, in the end the sum knowledge can lead to support or non-support of that group

Both Meshal and Haniyeh have made remarks critical of Bin Laden's killing.

Hence the question mark at the end.

If you believe there is someone who speaks for Hamas that is not Meshal or Haniyeh, could you show me where that person has dissented from the comments I've shared?

I'm glad you've at least made it clear that your fact was not actually a fact but just an opinion.

31. I stated that you could not sum up a group with one sentence
Edited on Fri May-06-11 10:13 PM by azurnoir
I stand by that statement

eta apparently you can sum up a group with a single sentence it seems, but as for myself I think that no group can be summed up in a single statement however it all depends on how ones mind works and how open to information ones mind is

I would not have thought of DU as a place where we're told what we do and do not need to know, but apparently I stand corrected

12. Weird that you would be so confused considering how long you've been posting here
Especially odd considering how frequently you post in a sub-forum that has very strict rules that one is required to abide by.

I find that shocking not confusing

eta that was the meaning of the comment you are replying to, I took the comment being referred to as casual not literal

19. being told what knowledge we do and do not need is the antithesis
of being progressive IMO, you seem to confuse having knowledge of something with supporting that same thing it is not

14. And when Jonathan Pollard is eventually released from prison...
no doubt Shas, Yisrael Beteinu and the National Union will throw a joyous homecoming party for their true Jewish hero - which presumably will be just as distasteful to American audiences as the actions of Hamas are.

And those parties are no less members of the Israeli government than Hamas is a governing party of the Palestinians.

Now Pollard is being compared to Bin Laden.
