Israeli FM says Palestinians planning 'bloodshed'

JERUSALEM — Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday claimed that the Palestinians were planning "bloodshed" for September as they push for UN recognition of an independent state.

"It is clear that the Palestinian Authority is preparing bloodshed and violence the like of which we have never seen," Lieberman told reporters at a briefing in the Knesset, Israel's parliament.

The hardline foreign minister provided no evidence to back his claim but suggested the Palestinians could organise marches to coincide with the UN General Assembly in September.

"It is clear that marches by thousands have one aim, to drag the international community into the Israeli-Arab conflict and to circumvent direct negotiations so that a solution is imposed by the international community," Lieberman said, speaking in Hebrew.

My gut tells me, has been telling me, there is a sense of urgency as it becomes clear that the money train is heading off the tracks, and that those nations with an imperialistic bent ( including ours) are trying to nail down as many resources as possible, while they still can.
Just a gut feeling, but
my gut feelings are usually on target, FWIW.

This is more like a formless yawp emitted in response to a formless anxiety about how things are going. To the extent he is addressing anything in particular, it seems more about the coming UN vote and all that.

I do agree that next weeks news about economic issues will be "interesting".

9. Even though very few take him seriously, I agree that he's an embarrassment...

He carries the same cringe-factor as Pauline Hanson did for me when she gave her maiden speech in parliament. Thankfully, she didn't last long and vanished back into the sewers from which she came, and never got to be any sort of govt Minister or hold any position of power...

Abbas said the Arab League had discussed allowing armed resistance to Israel's occupation if the bid for full membership of the UN failed, and that some countries supported the idea.

But the president said Palestinians did not want armed resistance "unless you all take a decision to launch war."

He added: "I cannot fire one single bullet at Israel because all I have is a policeman with a Kalashnikov and minimum ammunition."
