Israeli military base vandalized allegedly by settlers

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- An Israeli military base has been vandalized in what is believed to be retribution against the army by settlers.

The base was infiltrated early Wednesday by unknown assailants, who vandalized thirteen army vehicles by puncturing tires, shattering the windows, and spraying graffiti against Israel Defense Forces commanders and against dismantling of structures in the Jewish settlement of Migron on Monday, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The words "price tag" were also sprayed on the vehicles. Price tag refers to the strategy that extremist settlers have adopted to exact a price in attacks on Palestinians in retribution for settlement freezes and demolitions or for Palestinian attacks on Jews.

The IDF believes that soldiers were complicit in the attack, since it is very difficult to infiltrate a military base.

1. "Price Tag" is just a euphemism for terrorism and it's funny to see how...

...regularly the Israeli media uses this euphemism so long as the the acts are perpetrated by Israeli Jews. There's such a baked-in mindset in Israeli culture that only Palestinians or "the other" that would commit Terrorism (capital T) that socially, they have to dance around the concept when their own radicals choose the same paths.

This doesn't stop at tire slashing, for instance- I've read the same term used for settlers setting explosives, such as the two brothers (?) who had planted a bomb outside of a Palestinian school which was set to go off as the children arrived but which was spotted by quick-thinking security at the school. Frontline did a piece on this phenomenon.

"price tag" is a name for a specific policy. You'll note that, for example, when Natan-Zada and Weisgann comitted their attacks against Arabs, neither the media nor Sharon (who was PM at the time) had a problem calling them "terrorists".
