U.S. Sacrifices its Credibility as Israelis Thumb Their Noses
Barack Obama, who has claimed repeatedly to support a Palestinian state, made a speech this week before the U.N. General Assembly arguing against statehood - even as a new poll showed more than two-thirds of Israelis actually favor it. It's a shame to see the most powerful nation on the Earth appear to capitulate before a small Middle Eastern country, but this is exactly the image I have of the United States after the president's address.

1. It is shameful and despicable.
Future historians will wonder how our foreign policy was so fatally tied to that albatross pariah of a country.

2. Netanyahu doesn't give a damn what Israelis want.
He's a right wing asshole, just like the right wing assholes here; the people don't matter, only his billionaire buddies and corrupt political cronies.

3. Obama's capitulation isn't even to Israel, it's to AIPAC, which is Likud and the wealthy Right-wing

Oligarchs - the American and Israeli financiers and moguls who hold both countries hostage on these issues. They are an extremely reactionary group, and most American Jews, and many Israelis, do not share their political, economic and social agenda.

4. Didn't J-Street...
A hugely liberal Jewish lobby oppose the Palestinian move to unilaterally declare statehood?

Is J-Street controlled by the right-wing as well?

7. On this issue, J-Street is following the line set down by the Obama Admin.
The position of the Admin, which is strongly impacted by AIPAC (if not controlled), is that the Israeli have to agree to the terms of statehood, which they haven't.

8. How does "Unilaterally declare statehood" = "Applying for UN recognition" ?
