Lieberman warns of 'tough' Israeli reaction if UN approves Palestinian statehood
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Sunday there would be "tough repercussions" if the United Nations approved a Palestinian application for statehood.

Lieberman did not spell out what action Israel would take if the world body backed the application made on Friday by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the UN General Assembly.

In the past Lieberman has suggested severing ties with Abbas' Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, if it wins recognition without a peace deal with Israel.

Israel's closest ally, the United States, has said it would block the resolution, which means a Palestinian state would fall short of achieving full UN membership.

5. I think this is Lieberman's idea of "negotiating".
Or it could just be a reflex, like when somebody taps your knee with a hammer. Somebody thwarts your will, so you UNILATERALLY make empty threats.

4. Are they going to drop the mask and go full genocide/ethnic cleansing on the Palestinians?
Otherwise, what they have been doing is pretty tough, already.

12. Hope you are kidding
There is a long list of people whose suffering has been ignored by the world. Are you familiar with the Great African War? It is the bloodiest conflict since WWII - over 3 million dead. Yet no one knows about it or cares about it. Same for the Kurds, Tibet and the millions of.ethnic and religious minorities in the world.

Consider this thought - the UN welcomes every despot and authoritarian regime with open arms. Why do you expect fairness and social justice from them?

15. No, the bigoted lie would be denying it. You sound really upset I
see it as genocide? I'd have said the same thing during the genocide of the NA Natives had I been around. Guess what .......... not everyone chooses to close their eyes and ignore the obvious.

17. The NA natives *were* victims of genocide.
The indigenous population was reduced dramatically as a result both of direct massacres, and more indirectly of epidemic diseases resulting from contact with white settlers.

The Palestinian population is not only stable but increasing. This doesn't justify the occupation, but it's not genocide.

21. Sounds like you have an agenda

And calling it Genocide by the Jewish State is a pretty UGLY agenda.

And living in Canada it could even be illegal and probably considered HATE speech.

16. Who the hell is committing genocide?
I support Palestinian statehood, and can't stand Lieberman. But Israel is not committing genocide, any more than Palestine is. Both populations are increasing, rather than decreasing. Genocide is what is happening in Sudan, for example.

While Obama publicly pressured Israel to make concessions to the Palestinians over settlements, he secretly sold Jerusalem deep-penetrating bombs it had long sought. Eli Lake previews an exclusive story appearing in Monday's Newsweek.

that badly needs diplomacy.
