Israel Taking Iranian Assassination Plot Seriously
Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren said on Wednesday that Israel is taking the thwarted plot against the Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. and the possibility that the Israeli Embassy was a target seriously, saying it was "definitely an escalation" in an interview with MSNBC.

U.S. authorities said on Tuesday that they had broken up a plot by two men linked to Iran's security agencies to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir. One was arrested last month while the other was believed to be in Iran.

"We know the Iran regime. This is an Iranian regime that has not only sponsored terrorist organizations in our area, Hamas and Hezbollah, that have fired thousands and thousands of rockets at our civilian population, but they've struck abroad as well," Oren said in the interview.

The Israeli ambassador then went on to recount how Iran was responsible for the bombing of the Israeli Embassy and a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, killing over a hundred people.

3. The AIMA bombing was in 1994
How many terrorist operations is Israel sponsoring in Iran now?

4. And the leader of Iran then is still the leader of Iran today
I believe Argentina still has a warrant out for his arrest.

5. No
The warrant is for the leader of the Quods force. That's assuming Iran is responsible for the bombing.

My point was that it is folly to start a war in 2011 for an act that occurred in 1994. Of course, Oren really mentions it for a different reason - there's skepticism about "Bishour" being an Iranian terrorist agent and Oren is trying to shore up that notion.

6. The Chief Prosecutor asked for a warrant but was not granted one
The arrest warrants were based on Argentina's own investigations and an assessment of the claims made by the Iranian defector, Abdolghassem Mesbahi. Mr. Mesbahi told Argentine investigators that the 1994 attack, as well as the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, had been personally planned and directed by Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. He also directly implicated the man who was serving then as Iran's president, Hashemi Rafsanjani, in both attacks.

My point is that the leadership in Iran has not changed since that attack. Still ruled by the same unelected dictator.

7. So what?
We have seen what elected leaders can do. They are not immune from evil. That's no justification for war.

11. Israel and America need this war
Both countries need to take the pressure off themselves. Israel because the palestinian statehood bid, and America because of it's collapsing empire and a waking population. A war historically has been the best took either country has had in its belt to accomplish this.

15. bullshit
Americans have war fatigue. No one wants to start a new war.
We have no "empire" anyway. What does that even refer to?

Israel has shown no real interest in having a war with Iran. Iran is far too big and too far away. The Palestinian statehood bid is not any threat to Israel whatsoever.
