UN chief: East Jerusalem settlement plans are unacceptable
Ban Ki-moon says move to build 2,600 housing units runs contrary to Quartet's call on Israel, Palestinians to refrain from provocations as efforts are being made to resume peace talks.

By Akiva Eldar and Reuters

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon criticized Israel on Friday over reports that it plans to build 2,600 more housing units in East Jerusalem, saying further settlement activity was "unacceptable."

"The Secretary-General is deeply concerned at continued efforts to advance planning for new Israeli settlements in occupied East Jerusalem," Ban's press office said in a statement.

"Recent developments in this regard have been unacceptable, particularly as efforts are ongoing to resume (Israeli-Palestinian) negotiations, and run contrary to the Quartet's call on the parties to refrain from provocations," it said.

The Peace Now anti-settlement group said on Friday that Israel planned to build the housing units in a new urban settlement in East Jerusalem, angering Palestinians who want a halt to all such projects before they return to peace talks.

1. There seems to be some evil alliance
between the fundamentalist Christians and the fundamentalist Jews to bring on the end of times.
There is no other reason I can see for building this housing.

4. Messianic Jews
Although a lot of other Jews don't consider those Jews to be Jewish.

5. That a lot of Jews don't consider Messianic Jews to be Jews is why I did not mention them
to me they may be the only ones that got Christianity any where near right

6. Well Orthodox Jews often don't consider Conservative or Reform Jews to be Jewish
So it's not really a good rule to go by.

7. I'm not up on the prophecies of Xtians
Where is it written that putting up drywall and framing windows is a sign of the coming Apocalypse?

8. It isn't a sign of the Apocalypse
but it is provocation. Yes, there are Jews wishing for the Jewish equivalent of the End of Times although for a different reason than Christians. These are those like the Temple Mount Faithful and members of the more Orthodox or Chasidic sects who are waiting for Moshiah.

Ethiopian Jews living in that area hardly have the authority or the where-with-all to decide and implement how where and when housing will be built.
