Iran threatens to 'punish' any Israeli attack
By Shirzad Bozorgmehr and Kevin Flower, CNN
updated 3:30 PM EST, Wed November 2, 2011

Tehran, Iran (CNN) -- Iran issued a warning to Israel on Wednesday, with a top military figure saying Iran will "punish" any threat.

"The United States is fully aware that a military attack by the Zionist regime on Iran will not only cause tremendous damage to that regime, but it will also inflict serious damage to the U.S.," said Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi, commander of the joint chiefs of staff, according to the semi-official Fars News Agency.

"We, as the military, take every threat, however distant and improbable, as very real, and are fully prepared to use suitable equipment to punish any kind of mistake," he added, according to a CNN translation of his remarks.

Another semi-official Iranian news agency, ISNA, published a story in English quoting Firouzabadi as saying, "The U.S. officials know that Zionist regime's military attack against Iran will inflict heavy damages to the U.S. seriously as well as Zionist regime."

1. They oughta stop blustering so much.
They may soon get the bomb, but how many can they really make, maybe 10? Not to mention no other nation(besides perhaps N. Korea or any state that might be run by Islamic extremists), not even China, could possibly stand by them if they ever did attack the United States.

2. If Israel and/or the US did strike Iran and the Iranians retaliated
I would consider it to be self defense.

15. What difference would that make ?
The US and Israel would overwhelmingly retaliate to that ,weather they called it 'self defence' or a 'cheeseburger' .

With the same result.

Except that Cali_Democrat would of called it self defense.

3. Nobody is talking about them attacking the US.
They are talking about responding to an attack BY Israel and/or the US.

There's a difference.

4. Nobody is talking about attaking Iran
Iran is getting all flustered and sending out impolite threats of violence.

7. There has been plenty of speculation about attacking Iran from the misinformed
However, monday morning arm chair quarterbacks are not exactly the same thing as quarterbacks.

8. When you have Netanyahu trying to gin up support in his Administration
for an attack on Iran, I would call that more than a Monday morning Quarter Back.

Harvard for a degree in Political Science by being stupid. Underestimating the intelligence of someone with such credentials just because you disagree with their politics is not just stupid but dangerous.
This is not an attack on you to call you stupid because all people including myself can fall into such a rut.

17. When it comes to politics, he is stupid...
It doesn't matter how many degrees he's got, he's a fucking idiot when it comes to politics. He's got no ability to look forward and think about how the decisions he makes will impact further down the track, and doesn't have any political savvy at all...

9. Netanyahu trying to persuade cabinet to support attack on Iran
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are trying to muster a majority in the cabinet in favor of military action against Iran, a senior Israeli official has said. According to the official, there is a "small advantage" in the cabinet for the opponents of such an attack.

Netanyahu and Barak recently persuaded Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who previously objected to attacking Iran, to support such a move.

11. Funny, in MY world, when someone says "If you hit me I'm gonna put your lights out"
that's a warning, not a threat.
