Palestinians Urge UN Action Against Israel
By EDITH M. LEDERER, Associated Press – 1 hour ago

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The Palestinians urged the U.N. Security Council on Thursday to take action against Israel for accelerating settlement construction and "illegally hijacking" Palestinian tax revenue in retaliation for their new membership in UNESCO.

Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian U.N. observer, warned that if Israel's actions aren't stopped immediately, the volatile region might see further "escalations and provocations."

Palestine won its first major international endorsement on Monday when the Paris-based United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization voted to grant it full membership, a decision that immediately led to a cutoff in funding from the United States and Canada.

Israel retaliated by announcing construction of 2,000 new apartments in east Jerusalem, where the Palestinians want their capital, and temporarily suspending the transfer of millions of dollars in Palestinian tax revenue that it collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.

1. Let's count all the things wrong with those statements
Edited on Thu Nov-03-11 03:27 PM by vminfla
1. The perceived encroachment, in its sum totality amounts to 1.1%. 1.1% is not much to get your panties in a bunch about.

2. Israel's dealing with UNESCO is a private matter between Israel and UNESCO. A third party has no standing in the matter.

3. When Mansour states that Israel's actions are not stopped, there may be further escalations and provocations he means that the PA and its proxies have already planned further escalations and provocations and are looking to come up with a valid justification for the impending violence.

2. a few things wrong with your claims
1.about your thread that you link to 1.1% is only the area that actually has buildings standing on it and does not represent the 60% of the West Bank under IDF control

2. nothing in the article about Israel's dealings with UNESCO however Israel has ceased cooperation and is withholding money from the agency something that could call into question how accessible Israels historical site will remain for at least some
The statements were about Israel's withholding of the tax monies it collects on the PA's behalf, something Israel threatens quite regularly when the PA asserts it self in nonviolent ways

3. what Mansour was talking about was this

Abbas warns security chiefs be alert to Israeli provocation

President Mahmoud Abbas has instructed his security commanders to be alert and cautious of Israeli attempts to escalate tension, his political adviser Nimr Hammad said.

Abbas discussed developments on the ground with security commanders in light of threats by Israeli politicians and military officials and Israel's decision to withhold Palestinian tax revenue, Hammad told Ma'an.

Israel on Tuesday decided to cut off transfers of Palestinian tax revenues, depriving the Palestinian Authority of about $100 million, and threatening the salaries of about 180,000 employees.

The decision was announced after Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his cabinet to discuss punitive measures to respond to UNESCO's admission of Palestine a day earlier.

now just who are the PA's proxies that will be doing violence on behalf of the PA ?

4.  Supporting Israel behavior in the Middle east
is wronghead and counter productive, the Israeli government will continue their unlawful settlements if they continue to get money and weapons from America. Our democracy is a sad joke when we help destroy the Palestinians.
