"The Obama administration's top Middle East adviser Dennis Ross is set to leave his post by the end of November, American news reports said Thursday, citing US officials.
Ross, a former diplomat and negotiator, is a key adviser to President Barack Obama on Iran and the Middle East peace process.
"After nearly three years of serving in the Administration, I am going to be leaving to return to private life," Ross said in a written statement released by the White House, according to the Wall Street Journal."

"Ross is a polarizing figure in the Middle East, where he is widely viewed as sympathetic toward Israel and an unfair broker in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, which has stalled for over a year.
In September, Palestinians protested in Ramallah against a visit by Ross and US envoy David Hale. Protesters held signs reading "We do not trust the USA, an ally of Israel, enemy of Palestine."
Also this year, a political advisor to the late president Yasser Arafat said Ross' "extreme bias" led to the resignation of George Mitchell, the Obama administration's Mideast peace envoy."
