The Royal Library of Alexandria in Egypt, the largest and most significant library of the ancient world, is now being targeted by radical Muslims who seek to replace it with a mosque. Radical Islamic groups claim that the library's art programs, which include music and ballet dancing, spread "depravity" in Egyptian society.

The Islamist campaign against the library is taking place under the looking eyes of Egypt's military dictators, who are burying their heads in the sand and refusing to see the danger, noted columnist Mohammed al-Hamamsi. "Is the Supreme Military Council waiting until the Islamists come to power and demand, through their parliament, that the library be demolished and that a mosque be built on its site?" al-Hamamsi asked rhetorically.

Needless to say, the majority of the mosque sermons focus on the need to "defend Islam against Jews, Christian crusaders and Western colonialism."

In simple words, the message coming out of Egypt's Islamists is that Israel, the US and the entire West remain the number one enemy of Muslims.

2. I don't think this is what a majority of Egyptians had in mind when they rid themselves of Mubarack.

This is yet another reason as to why the Bush Doctrine and the unwarranted invasion of Iraq as well as the occupation of Afghanistan was bound to have long term consequences that helped to radicalize the religious reactionary minorities while marginalizing the moderate secular majorities in the ME.

Indeed the elections are due on November 28 and I must wonder had the current military government in Egypt suppressed this 'movement' was there a corresponding article in the works bemoaning the 'suppression' of political parties in Egypt, I am thinking that is quite likely the case

But tell us how will democracy in Egypt be delegitimized? Will it be by a party Israel does not like being elected assuming that there is a party Israel likes we can't have more than one democracy in the ME after all

Probably around 391 CE. Perhaps this odd article is referring to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliotheca_Alexandrina, a modern research institute that appears to be doing just fine?
