'Black Friday' gives way to 'Buy Israel Week'
Their effort may be coming on the heels of “Black Friday,” but organizers of a new nationwide campaign are hoping that consumers will hold on to some of their shopping dollars to show support for Israel.

Jewish newspapers, pro-Israel groups, Israeli companies and retailers are joining together to launch the first Buy Israel Week, which runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4.

Retailers are offering special offers on Israeli goods and nine Jewish metropolitan papers are publishing special supplements and a website, buyisraelweek.com, is featuring deals, coupons and contests in order to showcase the breadth of Israeli products.

“From a consumer perspective, Israel is known as a high-tech place,” said Frances Zelazny, a marketer from New York who conceived and organized the campaign. “We want to show some consumer brands, the coolness of the fashion, the food.”

This is a good week to buy Israeli goods. I think I will go out and buy a Jericho this week. What a wonderful program that will no doubt more than offset the ill-conceived BDS (Boycott Derangement Syndome) programs that anti-Israeli groups promote.

1. I will buy my weekly tin of Israeli dill pickles whether it's Buy Israel Week or Boycott Everything
Week. I will not buy settlement products, however. Unfortunately, I saw that some of the companies involved were those that sell products from settlements: Ahava skincare products, Barkan winery and Royal Wines. That's sneaky, for these companies make things difficult for other Israeli companies that are not doing anything illegal. I'm smart enough to know the difference, but maybe others won't be.

Here is a link to the Buy Israel Week flier to look at:
http://buyisraelweek.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/biw-chicago-jewish-news-supplement.pdf

If there were more Israeli products in the stores I would probably buy more than just pickles.

Nothing creepy about keeping my inbox free of creepiness that could possibly end up there. I mean, I find it rather creepy that someone who doesn't have my email address would ask if I got their email :)

It is a disgusting attempt to delegitamize Israel.

12. After checking out that website...
... and seeing how obviously biased and misleading it was, I decided that it was my duty at patronize the companies on that list to lend a sense of balance and equity to the argument.

After all, I wouldn't want the BDS Movement to be overcome by over-zealous bias. It wouldn't be fair.

17. Yeah, there were folk who felt the same way about BDS against South Africa...
And as yr so prone to confusion about what is and isn't Israel, the settlements aren't part of Israel, but occupied territory. Opposing the settlements and refusing to buy products from the settlements is in no way attempting to delegitimise Israel...

What utter nonsense that does a disservice to the memory of South Africans who endured apartheid.

24. Tutu's comments were ill-conceived
If you wish to decry apartheid states, that complain about Saudi Arabia that bans non-muslims from Mecca and Medina. Don't complain about a progressive state that has arab and Christian legislatures and has none of the demonnstratable traits of an apartheid state, such as Saudi Arabia.

33. Having endured Apartheid himself, it's yr comments that are ill-conceived...
Given that you view the West Bank as being part of Israel, Greater Israel would be most definitely an apartheid state. It's the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank that carry the traits of apartheid, and for those who insist the West Bank is part of Israel, there's no getting out of the fact that their vision of Israel is that of an apartheid state...

29. didn't Goldstone help to enforce apartheid? why yes he did as a SA Judge at the time
whereas Desmond Tutu lived under it, I'll take Tutu's word for it
Your premise is similar to taking a settlers word about living under occupation.....oh wait

32. Every few years, the anti-semites come up with another excuse for everyone to hate jews
They have been trying to get the apartheid meme to stick ever since the boycott derangement syndrome has turned out to be a complete failure despite their best, crazy efforts.

16. I myself won't touch wine unless the grapes are grown on stolen Palestinian land...
it makes the wine taste so much better, particularly if I can read in the wine notes that the said Arab's lemon or olive groves were uprooted and ploughed into the soil beforehand.

I suspect that's pretty close to the thought patterns of some who go out of their way to buy stuff just because they're produced in the settlements...

5. Don't care much for Middle East wines
But thanks for the list. The list clearly demonstrates Boycott Derangement Syndrome. Including the Golan Heights clearly demonstrates that this group is not for a two state solution, but an arab state in place of Israel.

However my comment applied to South African diamonds exported during the apartheid era, not the blood diamonds which came later

but thanks for your very revealing replies they say so much

http://hermannpicklecompany.com/index.htm

Its a family owned pickle farm that has been around since 1938.

They sell a few different varieties and also pack Nathans Famous Pickles but my favorite are their original Don Hermann & Sons Kosher Dill Pickles product. Here is what the the label looks like.
