"Israel Police and the Knesset Guard assigned Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On a bodyguard on Saturday, following threats on her life. On Friday, Knesset Guard informed Gal-On that intelligence reports received by the police include threats from right-wing extremist in the West Bank.
Gal-On said Saturday that she has not received direct death threats in recent days, and that the information she has is based solely on intelligence reports. She added the threats will not deter her and that she has no intention to stop her political activity or change the way she lives."I am already used to threatening messages," she told Haaretz. "I receive many letters and messages pointed against me and until today I never thought I should file a complaint on the matter."
Gal-On said the threats are directly linked to the recent wave of legislation "against civil society and against the left." She added: "With all modesty, I am one of the most prominent speakers on the left against (illegal) outposts and against initiatives to sentence terrorists to death, and I assume the threats were made in this context."
Two weeks ago, Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch told the Knesset that there is a threat of another political murder in Israel. Recently, death threats were sprayed on the apartment building of Ofran, a Peace Now activist, and Peace Now offices in Jerusalem were vandalized in suspected "price tag" attacks.
"Price tag" is the name given by extremists to activities against Palestinians, peace activists or security forces in response to what are considered to be actions against the settlements or illegal outposts in the West Bank."
