(FL) Gov. Rick Scott leaves for weeklong trip to Israel
<snip>

"In a trip that may be as much about politics as it is about jobs, Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday headed to Israel for a weeklong trade mission.

Like former governors Charlie Crist and Jeb Bush, Scott has chosen to visit the Middle East country during his first year in office.

Israel isn't a significant trading partner with Florida, currently ranking 56th, but that nation has extensive cultural and social ties to Florida due to the state's estimated 750,000 Jewish residents. Florida has the third largest Jewish community in the United States.

Scott's trip will take him to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as well as landmarks such as the Western Wall and Yad Vashem, the Israeli memorial to victims of the Holocaust. Scott plans to lay a wreath at the burial site of Yitzhak Rabin, the Israeli prime minister who was assassinated in 1995."

3. Strengthening economic ties is a good thing
Although Florida is more dependent on Latin American trade, finding partners further abroad in Israel is a good thing for the citizens of Florida.

5. Another governor is going to Israel for trade
And yes, if you read the OP, Scott specifically cited encouraging trade. Whether it is a Dem or a Republican, it is a good thing for both Israel and the state in question.

19. No. But it means he has very nasty politics.

In fact, Republican politicians probably kill more people each year by, for example, their opposition to government provision of healthcare than they would if they did eat babies!

In this case, it hasn't really got much to do with Israel, except that they're the ones who have to put up with a week of this vile person as their visitor.

12. If he were Democratic Governor he would go too
If there is one state the Jewish vote counts BIG time...

That is Florida ..

Going to Israel is good politics .

Ask Obama about the Jewish vote in Florida ..

15. If he were a smart governor he would go
Even one of moderate intelligence would go. It makes good economic sense for the State of Florida.

21. I would have a problem with a right-wing politician, whatever he did or wherever he went!
I hope he never decides to come on a trip to strengthen ties with the UK. Leave that to the more decent American politicians!
