U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer said in
remarks broadcast Tuesday that the Bush
administration "has no argument" with the West
bank fence as a security tool, but added that the
closer that the route of the barrier follows the
pre-1967 Green Line border, the less Israel "will
hear from Washington" regarding the barrier."

The United Nations General Assembly approved
Monday a Palestinian-initiated resolution
asking the International Court of Justice to
issue an advisory opinion on the legal
consequences of Israel's construction of the
separation fence. Ninety nations voted in favor
of the draft, eight opposed and 74 countries
abstained.

The United States joined Israel in strongly
opposing the resolution, arguing that it would
"politicize" the court and undermine efforts to
reach a Middle East peace settlement.
In remarks broadcast on Israel Radio Tuesday.
Kurtzer said, "There is a very strong
understanding in Washington of why the fence is
being built, and the support that it has, and
we don't have an argument with that.
