1. here's the Anti-Defamation League response…
This e-mail, which relates to comments made by Dean in early September, is malicious, misleading and factually inaccurate.

29. It is not from any Jewish anything.
I received it. I get lots of material on Jewish issues. I immediately tracked it down. I don't have enough tech know-how to go any further than to say that it was not originated by Jews. Not even repuke Jews. I say: look to the Rove!

3. Show them this

"...the former Vermont governor declared that, while the United States should become more engaged, he did not have any fundamental objections with President George W. Bush’s policies...

When asked by the Jewish newspaper Forward late last year as to whether he supported APN’s perspective, Governor Dean replied "No, my view is closer to AIPAC's view."..

He also rejects calls by APN and other liberal Zionist groups that Israel’s requested $12 billion loan guarantee be linked to an Israeli freeze on constructing additional illegal settlements on confiscated Palestinian land, arguing that such aid should instead be unconditional...

4. Snopes already has a page on this
Please check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/israel/dean.asp and then wonder why somebody is actively working to keep Jews away from Dean.

And then, perhaps, wonder who's trying to keep Jews away from liberal politics by making Israel-bashing fashionable.

5. I wouldn't feel comfortable lableling an entire religious group

but fans of sharon's policies of all faiths have a very committed champion in Dean.

To be fair, in the coming weeks, we will probably see more of the candidates following Dean's lead in this regard.

Money talks. Dead Palestinian children don't.

7. Jews for Clark, Round 2?
CAMPAIGN CONFIDENTIAL
E.J. KESSLER
FORWARD STAFF

December 5, 2003

Jews for Clark: As retired general Wesley Clark campaigned at a large synagogue in south Florida this week, one of the grassroots groups supporting his campaign, "Jews for Clark," was spreading the word about the general with an e-mail message that raised some eyebrows at Clark's campaign headquarters in Little Rock.

<snip>

"There are many in our community who think George Bush's support for Israel and Middle East intervention is good for our interests," the group's e-mail says. "But if you look at the bigger picture, you see a major erosion of American power and influence in the world and an erosion of American ideals at home — and this has major implications for both Israel and the Jewish community.

<snip>

After a traditional Democratic appeal blasting Bush for his stances on abortion and separation of church and state ñ both issues on which American Jews are at the extreme liberal end of political spectrum — the message concludes, "All of this behavior presents a clear and present danger to Jewish interests and it means that as a community we have to come together to defeat Bush next November." The group touts Clark as a nominee who "can win."

Clark's Jewish outreach coordinator, Greg Caplan, told the Forward that he hadn't seen the message until receiving it from the Forward, and he practically disavowed the group. "We have a lot of grassroots groups," Caplan said. "Some we are in closer coordination with than others. ... It's a free country. People are allowed to do whatever they want. There's no relation between us and them."

Dean's adviser for Jewish affairs, Matt Dorf, blasted the Clark campaign. "Wesley Clark needs to decide what kind of campaign he going to run, whether he's going to allow supporters to distort opponents' records, or whether he's going to distance himself from them and shut them down," Dorf said. "They're trying to have it both ways. Howard Dean's support for Israel and for Middle East peace is second to none."

9. Best way to counter it?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 12:52 PM by Tinoire
I'd suggest Dean supporters just come up with their own e-mail and fight fire with fire. Dean is not my candidate but this is despicable and this is no time to turn the other cheek- fight fire with appropriate fire.

Frankly though, I have no fears about the Dean campaign. Trippi is already quite aware of this e-mail.

Hold on to your hat, it's going to be a dirty Primary! Good luck!

10. Or the other candidates could go to Israel and promise sharon more

than he gets from bush. That is essentially what Dean did, and it seems to have been very effective. He has raised a lot of money.

11. Also, according to some people, Dean is a PNAC plant
If you love PNAC but wish Bush were just a little more metrosexual, then Howard Dean is your candidate, and the Democratic Party is your new political home.

Forget the nay-sayers who try to paint the Democratic party as the party of the poor and downtrodden, the brown and out, the New Democrats make it very clear that they are here for the well-heeled white wine and white skin set who like their brown folks carefully selected for humility and telepeal and their poor out of sight.

Come next year, the PNAC band just might be getting a new Boy Singer!

so no dissent is allowed, as though every democrat voter agrees with Lieberman and the likes...

14. Not only is dissent allowed
but it was my distinct pleasure to bring it to light. Why should these forceful views be relegated to gather dust in a blog that no one reads? Frankly, I think that this bold bit of dissent should be posted in the GD/Primary forum. For some reason, DTF has failed to do so.

And who said anything about Lieberman. This is about Dean who, according to DTF, is an AIPAC, PNAC tool.

16. So is it your argument that Dean
is another right-wing Democrat with whom many disagree? Because unless there is some kind of connection, your bringing up Joe Lieberman is a very odd non-sequitur (i.e. DTF smears Dean ... let's talk about Lieberman!!).

21. If you'll note the dates...
on those two messages, it's been personal for a while. Personally, I am tired of being accused of being a Sharon supporter by those who know that's not true, but would prefer take the cheap shot than to actually have a discussion.
