Wall makes Palestinian farmers refugees on their own land

The Shamasni family are well-to-do farmers, but they are living on their own land in the manner of refugees.

They own a comfortable house in the village near by, but they live and sleep under a pitiful tent in the fields. The children do not go to school; instead they sit in the dirt under the tent while the flies swarm around their faces and hands in the summer heat.

They look like earthquake survivors. But it was not a natural disaster that brought the Shamasnis to this. It was Israel's "security fence" - the series of fences and walls Israel is building inside the West Bank, hemming in the Palestinians. The disaster for the Shamasnis is that the fence runs between their home, in the village of Jayous, and their farmland, the family's only source of income.

Kucinich, although his heart and mind are in the right place (my view, and I assume yours), can't stop it now - nobody can. All the pieces are in place, and the only question left is how will the history books be written.

5. Because they have a bunch of illegal settlements in the West Bank

Several of which you think they should be allowed to keep (Ma'ale Adummin for instance). In fact, that specific settlement is the reason why this wall is going to virtually isolate Jericho from Bethlehem, Bethlehem from Ramallah and all 3 from East Jerusalem, screwing the Palestinians royally.

Not to mention the entire town of Qalqiyla (20,000 odd residents) is going to be destroyed thanks to this (with more to follow).

Everybody has been shouting about this for, like, forever (I haven't at DU specifically since I wasn't here). The plans were published, it was stated explicitly where this wall was going to go, and what it was going to do.

The United States is paying for it with eyes open, and I suspect the democractic side of Congress is more rabidly pro-Wall than anyone else.

Don't forget, "security" is the magic word. If Israel says that, you have to ignore the facts and scream "pro-suicide bombers!" or "objectively anti-semitic!" - pick your favourite smear.

Get ready to remember these names:

Salfit,
Biddya,
Az-Zawiya,
Al-Qubeiba,

etc etc.

They're the towns that are next in line.
