Islamic Jihad will only agree to truce with U.S. guarantees

Egyptian-sponsored talks on a possible cease-fire ended in Gaza on Wednesday with Islamic Jihad saying that there would be truce without American guarantees that Israel would hold up its end of the deal, Israel Radio reported.

The militant group said it will only agree to stop attacks against Israeli civilians if Israel also agrees to end the violence. Islamic Jihad said it would not agree to an all-out truce at this stage.

Hamas meanwhile hinted in the talks that it would be willing to stop attacks within the Green Line 1967 border of Israel, but only if Israel promises to honor a cease-fire.

Even the militant groups admit to their violence. They, in fact, take credit for every attack. Hope that there is some agreement achived here, but it looks doubtful.

Palestinian groups reject one-year truce proposed by Egypt

Palestinian organizations have rejected an Egyptian proposal aimed at forging a one-year cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinians. And while attempts to work out a truce continue to falter, attacks against Israeli targets in the Gaza Strip appear to be escalating: Hamas militants detonated a large explosive on an IDF base at the southern end of the strip yesterday.


Heads of the Palestinian groups claim that the cease-fire proposal is unworkable because it does not call for a sufficient level of U.S. involvement. In addition, Israel is not offering enough concessions in exchange for the truce, they said.

They want concessions for a truce. Israel is not at their bargaining table. They still don't have their heads screwed on correctly. Terror is terror and will not bring peace.

Of course it goes both ways. No agreement can be made if the Islamics get together and decide that they will stop attacks if Israel does. That's comic.

If you're fighting and you decide to stop attacking it is normal that you would like the enemy to stop attacking too, and, since you don't trust the enemy, you would like the enemy's big brother to guarantee it. It's perfectly reasonable.
