Sources: IDF troops arrest top Hamas official in Nablus
Israel Defense Forces troops arrested senior Hamas official Adnan Asfour in the West Bank city of Nablus overnight Saturday, Palestinian sources said.

Asfour, a senior figure in the militant group's political wing, has over the past few months become the Hamas spokesman in the West Bank.

The army refused to comment on the detention, which was confirmed by the Hamas official's brother, Sa'id Asfour.

<snip to end of article>

The military said the incursion was a routine operation in search of militants and weapons.

Palestinian gunmen on Saturday killed a man they accused of collaborating with Israeli security forces.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Iyad Taim, was shot in the head at close range in the West Bank city of Qalqilyah, according to emergency services. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

2. The arrest of the Hamas leader
This is an operation against terrorists. There is no other point to this operation.

3. How dare Israel actually arrest these thugs
Just because the Palestinians never do is no reason for Israel to do so.

Oy.

4. Indeed, it is a pity
They are actually resistance fighters and legitimate battle is going on. Therefore, to arrest them would be to end a legitimate resistance. Israel is playing the cop, when it should be the victim, eternally.

5. This action is to be commended

The Israelis arrested a Hamas leader by confronting him in a way that caused a no loss of life. This should show that it is not necessary to remove a leading militant in ways that callously disregard human life and often result in much unnecessary bloodshed.

We should be pleased that the operation to apprehend Adnan Asfour ended successfully and relatively quietly.

6. Uhhhh...
"This should show that it is not necessary to remove a leading militant in ways that callously disregard human life and often result in much unnecessary bloodshed."

certainly that is PREFERABLE....but not always possible.

But i agree...israel always tries to limit as much
colateral damage as possible as seen above.

7. I disagree with your last sentence

israel always tries to limit as much colateral damage as possible as seen above.

However, let's hope we will see this kind of operation and not the other in the future.

9. Must agree.
It's nice that they did a competent job of it this time.
Let's hope it becomes a pattern.

12. Interesting to note the second story by comparison
What a shame the Palestinians couldn't do as well when arresting the guy they "accused" of helping the Israelis.

Funny how anybody "accused" of opposing Arafat's operation gets a bullet in the brain rather than a trial. Guess the PA's "Justice" Department is even less worthy of the name than Ashcroft's.
