Iraq to weigh returning Jewish property

The Iraqi Governing Council is considering returning properties that were confiscated from departing Jews after the establishment of Israel, a senior source within the council told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.

He said a 1951 law, which had deprived fleeing Iraqi Jews of their properties, is now under review. The aim of the revision is to restore the properties to their rightful owners.

"We are determined to return all the properties that were taken from the Iraqi Jews and all the others," he said.

In the meantime, he said he had assured representatives of Iraqi Jews who want to visit Iraq that they would be welcome and that the council would ensure their security.

At no stage has the GOI done anything but refuse to even consider or discuss a return of property, or even compensation, to those dispossessed in 1948. So, given the fact that the GOI has no intention of sitting down and talking about it, would there be any point in the Palestinians sitting down and talking about it? Who are they supposed to talk to about it?

5. There is a kind of bias here that borders on something else

Of course it is in the natural order of things that if some Jewish people had their homes immorally taken from them then of course they must be returned to them, because these are real people we are dealing with here as they can be regarded as part of western civilisation.

Whereas the Palestinians well they are on a par with Africans who if they die in their millions from hunger then that just fills a nice five minute slot on the nightly news.
