Lieberman blasted for suggesting drowning Palestinian prisoners
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=315541

Take this article with a grain of salt as I found it through a link on an alternative news site, but can't seem to find the article listed at all on the Ha'aretz page. I halfway wonder if someone took the trouble to create an exact replica of a Ha'artez article and inserted the story. Well look and decide, or inform if you've heard of this anywhere else.

A storm erupted in the Knesset plenum yesterday,
following Transport Minister Avigdor Lieberman's
reported proposal to provide buses to take the
Palestinian prisoners that Israel releases to a
place "whence they will not return."

According to another report,
Lieberman said the prisoners
should be drowned in the Dead
Sea and he would provide the
buses to take them there.

MKs Jamal Zahalka (Balad) and
Talab A-Sana and Abdelmalek
Dahamsha (United Arab List)
blasted Lieberman.

"How can you suggest transferring thousands of
Palestinian prisoners to the Dead Sea and
drowning them there?" Dahamsha asked in a
debate on traffic accidents. Lieberman retorted
that MK Dahamsha visited an Arab murdered in
Afula by Palestinian terrorists.

The Arab Knesst members were furious. MK Talab
A-Sana said "that's the ultimate fascist
statement, shame on you."

2. I wonder why I can't find it

I've spent about half an hour trying to locate it on Ha'artez but no luck, unless they purged it? And just now I've gotten a 404 when trying to load the site.

And where had you seen it before, or was it from Ha'aretz?

4. the date stamp on the link
shows it as today, could be wrong, but i even did a search on haaretz and it pulled nothing, but if it was here then it got a thorough run through i guess.

6. well IF he said it
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 04:27 PM by Wonder
it is much worse than Jesse Jackson's poor choice of words when he made reference to NY having a large Jewish population by coining what would be considered by most reasonable people to be an anti-Semitic perjorative.

And I am not sure Jesse Jackson has yet to live the incident down. These Lieberman quotes are by far much more despicable.

IF these quote are true he should be taken out of the running.

Nauseating!

13. Please!
"Jesse Jackson's poor choice of words when he made reference to NY having a large Jewish population by coining what would be considered by most reasonable people to be an anti-Semitic perjorative". What a fancy way to say he made an anti-semitic statement.

14. well
the truth is while I was writing at the very same time my mind was trying to decide whether I should describe the perjorative or just quote what he said. I didn't want to insult anyone, so I the result was this strange round about way of stating it. Why the hyper-sensitivity?

15. I would not expect to be accused
of hyper-sensitivity regarding bigotry on a Democratic forum. I appreciate your caution not to offend. However, the way you related Jackson's comment made it appear it was a matter of opinion as to whether it was anti-semitic. It was flagrantly so.

16. When I saw the title of this thread, I wasn't surprised that Holy Joe
went one more step further into the Dark Side.

Which really tells you a lot when I am beginning to compare our Lieberman with his namesake in Israel.

Avigdor Lieberman is part of the lunatic fringe in the current coalition government in Israel. He is not the worst! As you can see, when put in the proper perspective, Sharon is not as bad as we thought.

If Bibi were PM, Avigdor Lieberman would have a more significant portfolio than Transport.
