Evergreen offers talks on conflict in Middle East
The Olympian

The Evergreen State College will begin a six-part lecture series on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict Thursday, fittingly enough, with a lecture called "Difficult Dialogues."

For Les Purce, president of Evergreen, the lecture series and related for-credit course is part of the college's continuing effort to foster intelligent discussions, rather than rhetoric, in the community.

Purce said the conflict in the Middle East was an obvious topic to explore, both because of the war in Iraq and because of the strong sentiment on campus.
"Clearly we have students who continue to have an interest and deep concern about issues in the Middle East," he said.

Evergreen was the home school of activist Rachel Corrie, an American killed by an Israeli military bulldozer while protesting home demolitions in the Gaza strip.

2. The thread is on the lectures
which Evergreen College is hosting. Personally, I think dialogue is a good thing, and I applaud Evergreen for presenting people with the opportunity to learn and discuss the issue.

Sorry you feel that it's just a dead horse. That is too bad.

3. Then your inclusion
of the final paragraph in your original post was accidental?

If it was sincerely intended to be informational about education why not place it in the education forum?

So, if your intention is educational, inclusion of the last paragraph is a violation of selection of misleading paragraphs.

If your intention was to begin yet another Rachel Corrie thread, some honesty would be appreciated.

4. Uh, the mention of Rachel Corrie was in the article...
And it's impossible after actually reading the article to claim that it's an article about Rachel Corrie. The mention of her was a passing one in the first part of the article, and it's obvious that the article is about talks on the Middle East conflict....

Has it really got to the stage where even the merest mention of Rachel Corrie in any article is a big no-no in this forum?

5. Anything that fosters intelligent discussion should be encouraged...
"For Les Purce, president of Evergreen, the lecture series and related for-credit course is part of the college's continuing effort to foster intelligent discussions, rather than rhetoric, in the community."

I'd love to be able to go to those lectures...
