Yassin denies involvement in Wednesday's suicide attack
Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin on Friday
denied involvement in Wednesday's suicide
bombing at the Erez crossing, amid reports that
Israel was considering targeting senior Hamas
officials, including Yassin himself.

"We do not fear the threat of death," Yassin,
wrapped in a brown blanket, told reporters
outside a mosque. "We will not bow to
pressure and resistance will continue until the
occupation is destroyed."

Yassin said he was not personally involved in
planning attacks, denying allegations by Israeli
security officials that he had approved
Wednesday's bombing in which a female
suicide bomber killed four Israelis.

Senior security officials on Thursday said that
that the security establishment is considering
targeting senior Hamas officials. Deputy
Defense Minister Zeev Boim said Yassin
topped the list of those the military is stalking.

Hamas spiritual leader, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, personally authorized the use of the female suicide bomber who attacked the Erez terminal crossing Wednesday, killing four Israelis.

She practically begged," an Arab affairs reporter told Channel 2.

The Hamas leadership repeatedly spurned her requests, until Yassin himself intervened. Hamas has previously resisted the use of female suicide bombings on ideological grounds. However, when Hamas operatives brought a plan to bomb the Erez crossing into the joint Israeli-Palestinian industrial zone, the Hamas leadership put ideology aside and adopted the plan most likely to succeed.

Sheikh Yassin then personally gave his blessing for al-Rayashi to be used as a bomber, and issued a decree (a few hours after Wednesday's attack) to the effect that "Jihad was the duty of men and women."

5. In all honesty
It would not surprise me very much if he got the Nobel Peace Prize, all things considered.

8. He should never have been
let out of the Israeli prison on humanitarian grounds.

Well, it wouldn't do any good anyway, as he can direct operations from inside the prison.
