Five Israel Defense Forces Military Police soldiers were arrested Monday on suspicion of accepting bribes from Palestinians in the Ramallah area in the West Bank, in exchange for easing restrictions on them. The troops are also suspected of dealing in illegal narcotics.
The five will be brought to a court to have their remands extended on Tuesday. The investigation surrounding the five continues and more arrests are expected.
The arrests followed an undercover Military Police investigation. The five were stationed with a unit that served and operated the Kalandia roadblock south of Ramallah. Tens-of-thousands of Palestinians, foreign nationals and Israelis pass the roadblock daily, from and to the West Bank's Samaria region.
