'Women, Politics and Israel' - Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
***

"I might not be here if it weren't for Israel," said Robert Kennedy's eldest daughter. "My father had a crush on my mother's sister originally. Then his father decided he needed some experience as a journalist. He went to Israel to cover the War of Independence for the Boston Post in 1948, and when he returned, my aunt was engaged to someone else. So he married my mother."

Townsend said Robert Kennedy had been impressed with the strength of Jewish freedom fighters, seeing Israel as, "A truly great model for the birth of a nation in courage and dignity."

Townsend strongly backs her father's reasons for supporting Israel, for which, she stated, "He was killed."

A longtime advocate for social issues concerning women and children, Townsend, a Harvard Law School graduate who also served with the Department of Justice as deputy assistant attorney general of the United States, was interested to hear of Marco Island's participation in the Neighborhood Accountability Boards. She approves of the way in which boards not only give youngsters guilty of a first offense a second chance, but also impress upon them their responsibilities by involving the victims. "It makes what they have done more real, and the person they have hurt less obscure."

1. Townsend is all mixed up
Sounds like she gets her information from the evening news:
Not exactly what I would call a deep thinker.

4. She's trying to kiss up to pro-Israel folks
Ehrlich beat her and there was a fair amount of support from the Jewish community for him even though he was GOP. That was due to the combo of his charisma (not tough to beat her on that) and his support for Israel while in Congress.

2. And in the end
Bobby Kennedy was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist whose release was later sought by Arafat.

At least, for once, the US didn't cave in the Arafat's blackmail and Sirhan Sirhan remains a prisoner rather than being freed to be a hero to the PA.

3. Exactly, Michael
Sirhan Sirhan will spend the rest of his miserable terrorist life in prison.

Can we begin to imagine how differently the world could be now if RFK had not been assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan.

Almost unbearably sad what the Palestinian terrorist did to our country!

5. It's almost unimaginable
Comparing a Bobby Kennedy Presidency with the six years we suffered under the lies and hatred of Richard Nixon...

I'd argue that we're still paying the price of Bobby's loss today and will be for a generation more.

6. No question.
What a potential we had...but the power couldn't take it; so, they murdered MLK and they then murdered RFK and so many on the board seem unaware of what that really meant to our country! so sad
