Islamic Jihad vows revenge for commander's death

The leader, Abdallah al-Shami, told Reuters shortly after his close relative Aziz al-Shami died of injuries in a Gaza City hospital that the death ''has brought happiness into our hearts because Aziz has achieved what he always dreamt of achieving, and that was martyrdom.''
But he said the killing also increased their determination ''to launch powerful and painful strikes against the enemy,'' adding that revenge would be carried out.
Al-Shami also urged fellow militants to take extra care to avoid being targeted by Israel.
He called on Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie to halt talks with Israel which had been underway amid efforts to restart peace negotiations and arrange a summit with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
