Palestinians Fear Gaza Chaos After Rare Rape-Murder
Palestinians Monday demanded the execution of four men for the rape and murder of a Gaza girl of 16, a rare sex crime that has deepened fears of a slide into lawlessness accelerated by the conflict with Israel.

"Human wolves," the Palestinian daily al-Ayyam headlined in reference to the arrested suspects in a case that has shocked the Palestinians' conservative Muslim society, where rape has long been a taboo topic.

Gazans knew that the girl was abducted as she left school last September and found strangled 48 hours later in a garbage bin. But investigators did not confirm until Friday, when they announced the arrest of the suspects, that she had been raped.

"Death to the filthy killers!" chanted at least 4,000 Palestinians, including hundreds of students and militants firing rifles into the air, in a rally at a seaside refugee camp near the family home of the slain teen-ager, Maiada Abu Lamdi.

"We are asking the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) to implement the law of Allah -- let the killers' hands and legs be cut off and let the killers be hung in public!" they shouted.

==================================

It would appear Palestinians raping and killing Palestinians is the fault of Israel! I am disturbed by these people calling for the offender to be maimed. Barbaric.

1. Maiming. Normal reaction.
I would have picked different parts to be cut off, however.

3. They get mad at rape but they approve of sending 13 year old
kids to blow themselves up and commit murder? Wow, very impressive logic.

5. If you could somehow prove that the *same* people
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 01:13 PM by lefty_mcduff
that you claim "approved" of sending 13 year olds are the very same people that "get mad a rape" you may have a slim point.

It would be hypocritical.

Are you claiming that *both* sentiments apply to *all* Palesinians?

7. Well....
after his little head was filled with all kinds of
hate, the 13 yo was told to go out and commit some
'jewicide ' bombing.

probably was promised 72 12 year olds or something.

10. I thought we were
discussing the rape and murder of a little Palestinian girl (by Palestinians) and the demand for vengence against the alleged murderers.

Aren't there other threads dealing with the kiddie terrorists?

11. Well...
it all ties to the now legendary Palestinian legal system.

14. I would have though it obvious
that societal breakdown and the resultant lawlessness would also apply to the Palestinian legal system.

I also would think it obvious that blood-lust could engulf a crowd when it came to calling for the punishment of those responsbile for the rape and murder of a little girl.

You wish not to address that. Fine.

4. Simple.
Breakdown of society equals lawlessness.
Lawlessness equals tragic events like this.

Not sure were you read that the "raping and killing Palestinians is the fault of Israel!" though. Perhaps you should reread the piece.

Anyone did this to my daughter - not sure I would be so gentle in my *demands* for vengence.

You claim you are 'distirbed' and that this is 'barbaric' yet you routinely support blowing people up with bombs and bullets, in revenge killings for the deaths of Israelis.

Isn't that a tad hypocritical?

6. See the article
"Palestinians are grappling with a breakdown in law and order they say has been accelerated by Israeli army raids. Israel says the raids are to pre-empt Palestinian militant attacks, but Palestinians say they have also crippled their security services." Blame is directed toward Israel.

Military operations which finish terrorists are much different than calling for the public torture of a criminal. Again, these people are being barbaric.

9. Okay dokey.
I did read it. I stand by my original point.
Breakdown in social order equals lawlessness.

Not sure I agree with you on the second point.

You call the public executions (assasinations) of *suspected* terrorists "exhilarating" and "gratifying".

Apparently this group of Palestinians agree with you.

I think both are barabaric.

8. What's your point?

If Arafat was doing his job of policing the terrirtories there would be no breakdown of law and order.

13. I guess my point would be
that when a population is kept in such dehumanizing conditions, either by *their* leaders actions, or by Israeli actions, lawlessness is one of the unfortunate outcomes.

One of the outcomes of that lawlessness is the rape and murder of a little girl. Rape and murder of little girls usually brings out blood-lust in many societies - not just the Palestinians. So I don't think the sentiments expressed are indicative, or a barometer of, whether Palestinians are, or are not, more barbaric than anyone else.

15. Rape
This is not more uncommon in the Palestinian culture than elsewhere. Usually the family disowns the victim or the the crime goes unpunished because of fear of stigma.

{i]Abu Shammala said that in general, solving sex crimes was difficult because victims and families preferred not to talk or undergo legal procedures for fear of public shame.

Not long ago there was an article about a mother who murdered a daughter who had been raped by brothers. If there is lawlessness, (no doubt there is), the cry for law in order is a good sign. Perhaps the people are beginning to take control of their own country. They should demand that the terrorist gangs be arrested. That would be a good change.

12. Barbaric??
So it's less barbaric to drop bombs from fighter jets into a crowded city street in order to assassinate one person SUSPECTED of being a terrorist? It's less barbaric to persist in using internationally banned flechette rounds that serve only to brutally maim and kill people? It's less barbaric to bulldoze the home of an innocent family??

Talk about selecting what you want to hear...

19. Periodically it happens
I can say I find little to disagree with this statement:

"'We are asking the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) to implement the law of Allah -- let the killers' hands and legs be cut off and let the killers be hung in public!' they shouted."

The lawlessness is Arafat's fault. It's long past time for folks to rebel against him.
