More Mosques in France Falling Under Sway of Radicals
http://www.townhall.com/news/politics/200403/FOR20040301d.shtml#

French officials have noted an increase in Islamic radicals taking over Paris area mosques in the last year, with 32 mosques now under the control of extremists.

According to a study by undercover police forces, the number of radical mosques has increased by 10 in the last year. Officials say there are a total of 373 mosques or prayer groups in Paris and its suburban areas.

The study was reported in the French daily Le Monde. Police officials have declined to comment further on the findings.

According to Olivier Roy, a senior researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research, the radicalization of mosques is a result of the growing Salafism movement.

According to the police, extremists take over by first criticizing the older generation's interpretation of holy texts and then bringing up political issues such as the ban of Muslim headscarves in French public schools, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and discrimination against Arabs.

1. If any country has the un-PC backbone to stop that crap
...it is France.

Do you think the French care about human rights because they want to be liked (as Americans do)? For them, it is much more a matter of taking care of business, and holding their history so close to them, they have no reason to pretend tolerance for religious fundamentalism.

The French gov't will keep investing in Palestine, go through a phase of very public anti-discrimination cases/measures, and leave the radicals little more than a headscarf to cry about.

2. wow
"Do you think the French care about human rights because they want to be liked (as Americans do)?"....i think most people here would say yes.

"For them, it is much more a matter of taking care of business, and holding their history so close to them, they have no reason to pretend tolerance for religious fundamentalism."...pretty damning
of the french.

"The French gov't will keep investing in Palestine, go through a phase of very public anti-discrimination cases/measures, and leave the radicals little more than a headscarf to cry about."...
you got me there.

4. Could you go into more detail....
...on how having millions of Muslims in one's country can be described as being problematic.

5. Well, in France there have been many attacks against Jews
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 05:10 PM by packerssuck
as well as torching and vandalizing synagogues. This has been traced to the Arabs who are upset with the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

6. Hmm...
Problem is there are are so many millions of muslims in France. While in the Navy, I lived in France for a year and those French Moroccans are straight up thugs.

Let's turn this around a bit...

Problem is there are so many millions of Jews in the US. While in the Navy, I lived in America for a year and those American-Israelis are straight up thugs.

(Note: I disagree with both statements.)

7. Unfortunately your facts don't support your smug comments.
Ergo, the link. Jews aren't destroying mosques or attacking muslims in america. But let's not let facts and reality get in the way Mr. Objective.

8. So what?
There are Jews in the Bush Administration - Paul Wolfowitz, for one. Is that an excuse to smear all Jews in the US? No. The problem is Paul Wolfowitz and his colleagues, not the millions of Jews in the US.

Similarly, there are Muslims attacking Jews in France. Is that an excuse to smear all Muslims? No. The problem is the Muslims who are attacking the Jews and their far-right allies in anti-semitism, not the millions of Muslims in France.

I think it's you who's being biased, not me.

18. So, Iraq is a Jewish conspiracy huh?
I guess that oil companies and other Bush cronies have nothing to do with this war.

19. When did I say such a thing?
I said Paul Wolfowitz was involved in running the Iraq war; since he happens to be high up in the Department of "Defense", I don't see what's wrong with that statement...

14. I hate to break this to you
The French do not go out of their way to be liked. They want their country to run smoothly and that means everyone MUST be able to compromise their religious traditions. Fairness is not always a bed of roses or especially popular.

for support, yet mock leftist sources as "misguided".I guess DU does welcome all types now.

23. Well considering all the things that people call anti-semitic
it's getting hard to keep track of them all.For instance, anything critical of Israel is anti-semitic :eyes:

I note you also didn't deny anything.I'm glad we can agree on something.

24. Legitimate criticism of the Government of Israel
is NOT anti-Semitic. I don't infer that in any way it is. It's not very hard to recognize anti-semitism if you want to.

You just have to want to.

21. I think western governments
should stop the building of mosques in their countries until the Saudi Arabian government allows churches to be built in Saudi Arabia.
