Christians, Jews aim to protect Israel buses

A Chicago-based organization of Jews and evangelical Christians donated $2 million to Israel on Wednesday to step up security on Israel's public buses and make it more difficult for Palestinian suicide bombers to launch attacks.

The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, which claims 300,000 supporters in the U.S. and Canada, made the donation to Israel's Ministry of Internal Security, said David Roet, Israel's deputy consul general in Chicago. The money will be used to deploy 1,000 security personnel with metal detectors on 1,000 buses, he said.

Making Israeli buses secure is something that should have been done a long while ago. I remember reading an article here a while back that was talking about introducing new security systems onto the buses. If it's not done already, anyone trying to get onto a bus should be searched away from the bus. I have a sneaking suspicion that making the buses safe would just mean the suicide-bombers would go elsewhere looking for softer targets, so in the end it's a band-aid solution that doesn't solve the problem, just moves it elsewhere...
