Jihad says killing of group's leader in Hebron risking hudna
A senior Islamic Jihad leader warned Thursday that the IDF operation in Hebron, in which the group's leader in the West Bank city was killed, was endangering the cease-fire agreement between the
Palestinian Authority and militant groups declared on June 29.

Sheikh Bassam Sadi, leader of Islamic Jihad in the West Bank,
confirmed Mohammed Sider's death and promised revenge. "I
assure our people that this crime in Hebron will not go unpunished," he said.

Defense Minster Shaul Mofaz said Thursday that that IDF operation in Hebron was meant to deal with a “ticking bomb”.

1. There goes the cease-fire....
first Al-Aqsa Brigades, then Hamas, and now Islamic Jihad.

2. cease-fire
What cease-fire? The Palestinians violated it from day one.

4. Actually
The first violation was on the Israeli side. Day one in fact.

It is however true that several Palestinian terrorist groups have also violated the roadmap and broken the ceasefire since then.

5. The cease-fire was a joke...
I think all of us, regardless of which side of the debate we're on, saw that clearly fromm the beginning.

6. I wouldn't agree with that entirely
I think a real and credible ceasefire could probably have been achieved. This ceasefire was largely a joke, although it wasn't completely useless. It had several positive effects, which could have been built on had there been any interest whatsoever on the part of the US-Israeli alliance in moving towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict. There wasn't, so it obviously was going to collapse. As you say, that was clear at the beginning.

Also, more important, and related: the Roadmap itself is a joke. Speaking personally, I know I said that with detailed notes roughly a day or so after it was published. I also said people could pretend this was some kind of "peace process", but then they'd be being wilfully ignorant about the facts.

7. Agreed...
Neither the roadmap nor the cease-fire will accomplish much of anything. Saying a lot of big words but accomplishing nothing has become a tradition in the Middle East conflict.
