"The police is checking out suspicions that the leader of the "Haifa underground", Eliran Cohen, sought the blessing of several Rabbis for his anti-Arab activities, which included a series of bombings. The mattrer arose in Cohen's preliminary interrogations following his arrest. However the police have not yet completed this line of inquiry.
Channel 2 TV reported this (Thursday) evening that Cohen told his interrogators he wanted "everyone to know" about his activity and therefore turned to Rabbis in northern Israel as well as the territories, whom he asked to approve his intention of murdering Arabs. He also contacted extreme-right activists and families of terror victims, whom he asked to finance his activity. According to Channel 2, the police has intelligence corroborating the suspicion that the Rabbis and activists knew about Cohen's actions and did not report them."
