The army set up the two watchtowers in the Palestinian neighborhoods of Abu Sneineh and Harat al-Sheikh -- areas that overlook Jewish settler enclaves in the Israeli-controlled downtown sector.
The blue-and-white Israeli flag flew atop the watchtowers while soldiers protected from the heat by canvas tents kept an eye on the Palestinian areas.
