Security Council fails to agree on statement on Yassin killing
Israel accused the United Nations on Tuesday of hypocrisy for convening a debate over the assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and not condemning Palestinian suicide bombings of its civilians.

The 15-member Security Council held a debate on Monday's killing of Yassin by Israel after Arab ambassadors and the United States failed to agree on a statement criticizing Israel.

"Not one resolution, not one presidential statement has been adopted by this Council to specifically denounce the deliberate massacre of our innocent civilians," Israel's UN ambassador Danny Gillerman said in a speech to the council.

Gillerman said Yassin had helped direct or inspire 425 attacks that killed 377 Israelis and wounded 2,076 in the past three and a half years.

2. It's very strange
that the UN reps would get on worldwide tv to denounce the killing of Yassin (a mass murderer) yet they never get on tv to denounce the slaughter of innocent Israelis. I find this very twisted. The UN is very one sided on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

8. The U.S. is not supposed to be non-partisan
The UN in theory is. In pratice it is the mouthpiece for the Arab world.

4. A new statement
Israel helped direct or inspire the killings of several thousand Palestinians...

Your admittance that the killings were not by the hands of Ariel Sharon is indeed something to celebrate. However, you still have a way to go. The killings in the camps in Lebanon were done by the Falangists. They needed not "inspiration" from Sharon or Israel.

5. Sharon
has galore of blood on his hands. No doubt about that. That's why pretty much all of the world considers him a war criminal (rest for the neocon and likud supporters and the likes)...

9. I think that the Arab world is in desperate need of reform so that
its society can get up to par with the rest of the world economically, socially etc. and stop scapegoating Israel and the jews for all their problems.

10. Phalangists
were armed and trained by Israel. Israeli soldiers helpfully used searchlights to illuminate the massacre area for the Phalangists.

Ariel Sharon was personally in charge of the operation, and told Phalangist leaders that he knew the recent assassination of the Phalangist's leader Bashir Gemayel was the fault of the Palestinians.

I can't believe the Ariel Sharon fan club is still disputing the facts more than twenty years afterwards...

I suppose those "Unit 101" massacres of Lebanese and Palestinians that Ariel Sharon boasts about personally participating in are just rumours made up by antisemites. Right?

15. Now you've
got it. Reputable reporting is what is needed. Selecting a single battle of an historical conflict, with no background material, and degrading the Israeli casualties by minimizing them, will never do for me.
