"The “Ahmed Yassin effect” continues to seep into Israel, this time from an unexpected direction: the Philippine government is getting ready to evacuate its citizens from Israel if the regional security situation deteriorates.
The Philippine government issued a statement on Thursday saying it is dispatching a special security delegation, led by former Philippine Chief of Staff, Roy Kimato to Israel to make preparations for the possible evacuation of 75 thousand Philippine nationals currently resident in Israel.
Deputy Foreign Minister of the Philippines said that the Hamas leader's killing had created “a cycle of violence”, and therefore the team will be sent to the Middle East to assess the situation. The decision on whether to suspend Philippine workers from traveling to Israel will be made upon the delegation's recommendations.
Israel’s foreign ministry claims it has not heard any word about the delegation but sources at the ministry stated that it wouldn’t be the first visit by a Philippine delegation of this nature. When the war in Iraq broke out a similar Philippine team arrived in Israel and deemed evacuation of nationals unnecessary."
